MEDIA REGISTRATION OPEN
Event: The launch of hull number 1390 (RRS Sir David Attenborough) into the River Mersey.
On Saturday 14 July 2018, at 12.20 precisely the 10,000-tonne, 129 – metre long hull will slide down the slipway, signalling the completion of a major construction milestone of the new polar research ship for Britain. Commissioned by the Natural Environment Research Council, built by Cammell Laird and operated by British Antarctic Survey, this is the largest civilian shipbuilding project in the UK for 30 years.

08.30-10.00: Opportunities for media to interview spokes people
11.15: Around 2000 members of the shipyard and invited guests from the worlds of science, technology and engineering take their positions close to the slipway
11.20: Speeches
12.20: ‘Splashdown’ at high tide
12.45: Interview opportunities with special guests
14.00: Event ends
Special note: for safety reasons, there is a 35-metre exclusion zone around the slipway. There is no public access to the shipyard but opportunities to watch from vantage points across the river at the Albert Docks and Otterspool will be publicised.
