The aim of this Safety Matters is to highlight the potential dangers of volcanic ash and to provide flight crew & aircraft operators with guidance on managing the safety risks.

Isle of Man Aircraft Registry Policy:

Flights should not take place into airspace at any altitude, or any aerodrome forecast or known to be contaminated with volcanic ash, unless the flight is conducted in accordance with a safety risk assessment completed by the aircraft operator, taking into account:

  • Any restrictions placed by the state in whose airspace the contamination is forecast;
  • Guidance or recommendations issued by the aircraft TC Holder, STC Holders and other approved modification or OEM data that may be appropriate.
